Top 5 Comedies of All Time

Here they are, the Watch It Top 5 comedies of all time. I'll start from #1 this time just to mix it up.

1) The Big Lebowski

I LOVE this movie, it has grown better each time I've watched it. John Goodman puts in the performance of his life and Jeff Bridges is perfect. If you haven't seen this you've missed out on an epic movie. Full Review

2) Dumb and Dumber

Dumb and Dumber actually seems to get..well..dumber every time I watch it now, but I have to put it on this list, in fact I almost put it first. No movie has ever made me laugh as much as this one did the first 47 times I watched it. The Cam Neely (Seabass) cameo alone makes it worth watching.

3) The Darjeeling Limited

This one has had very mixed reviews but I was hooked from the opening scene to the very end. I laughed, I almost cried, I loved it all. Wes Anderson is one of my favorites in the writer/director field as you'll see by my choice for #4 on this list.

4) The Royal Tennenbaums

I couldn't help but put 2 Wes Anderson movies on this list. I could almost have put another one but that would get silly. The Royal Tenenbaums is a brilliant comedy and like Anderson's other movies it got me right from the start. I think it's his attention to detail in the imagery and his great characters that I like best but I could also sit and just listen to the dialogue in this movie and still laugh.

5) Old School

Vince Vaughan, Will Ferrell, Luke Wilson...enough said.

Wow, I haven't seen three of the five! I'm always stuck in the comedy section of the video store, everything just seems like a gamble. Now I've got something to work with!

Nice work Toni.

I know what you mean about the comedy section being a gamble. People's opinions on comedies are so subjective and varied as well.

wow. not the list i expected. seriously no will ferrell or chris farley? i can see either darjeeling or tenenbaums on there, but both? and not life aquatic?

these aren't criticisms, just surprises. i'm going to have to think now what my five would be.

as with trev, you've given me some movies to see as well.

jon, Life Aquatic was good, not my favorite Anderson movie though. I'd put Bottlerocket above it.

Will Ferrell is in Old School.

I nearly put Tommy Boy on, it would be my number 6.

Great Top 5, Seen and loved all 5 of these. Old School is my fave Will Ferrell film. Tenebaums is my favorite Anderson film. And Big Lebowski is just my favorite, period.

Great choices. You've got the Cohens, Carrey, a couple Andersons, and Will Ferrell. Nice job.

I'd have to throw Superbad up there. Annie Hall too. It Happened One Night would make my list as well.

Hey Toni,

Just saw the "Darjeeling limited"; what a great flick. When the camera zooms in on Owen as he says "look at those a**holes", my buddy and I fell on the floor laughing for an unreasonably long time.

The camera work was reminiscent of movies from the 70's, and the humour was very dark -- Is this what I can expect from "Royal Tennenbaums"? If so, count me in.

trev, you need to check out all of Anderson's stuff if you liked Darjeeling. Rushmore is another classic.

uh, woops, yeah i guess will ferrell is on there. i think of old school as a college frat movie i don't want to see rather than as a will ferrell movie like maybe i should. i'd never given it a second thought until you put it in your top 5, actually.

just saw big lebowski. pretty dang funny stuff. a bit overboard on some things, not perfect, but still, very unique and john goodman is stinking hilarious. i loved all the stuff about the nihilists.

This can't succeed in reality, that is what I think.
