So I guess it's a matter of taste. it's a simple story yes, but the content is anything but. the dialogue is outstanding and the last scene moves me beyond words. I understand though, that's it's not for everyone.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33519197.post-45831968756330311202007-04-14T17:32:00.000-07:002007-04-14T17:32:00.000-07:00jeff and jon, Pan's Labyrinth is not as gory as Ta...jeff and jon, Pan's Labyrinth is not as gory as Taxi Driver that's for sure. The gory bits are brief and intense but worth sitting through. They don't dominate the movie.

jeff, I haven't seen Babel or Half Nelson yet, I will but I thought my top 5 shouldn't wait until the fall and who knows how long it will take me to watch those two. I've heard good things about both.

jon, no doubt about Talladega, I went to the 5th level of comedy in the prayer scene.

jeff, Taste of Cherry, I knew you'd ask about that. It was underwhelming and boring but that's not the only reason I didn't like it. I felt like it was a simple and brief story that could have been told in 15 minutes but was stretched out into a full length movie with A LOT of empty space and repititious imagery. I liked the performance of the main actor and I liked some of the writing but overall I can't say I enjoyed or would recommend it to anyone.Tony Tantihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14619319927519736211noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33519197.post-71817138828636310012007-04-14T16:08:00.000-07:002007-04-14T16:08:00.000-07:00Wow, I'm starting to feel like I need to see Pan's...Wow, I'm starting to feel like I need to see Pan's. Gory? What kind of gory? I love that Talladega Nights and Stranger than Fiction beat out the Departed. I have to admit I was belly-laughing at Talladega, and that's something most comedies don't do for me.

jonJon Couttshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01728055140831842717noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33519197.post-16870587298249528222007-04-14T14:08:00.000-07:002007-04-14T14:08:00.000-07:00Hey Dave, I've only scene two of these movies so I...Hey Dave, I've only scene two of these movies so I guess I've missed out this year! Although I saw about 10 minutes of Talladega Nights and that was enough for me. I need to see Pan's Labyrinth, I've been avoiding it because I can't really handle anything gory. But I will watch it.

I'm a little surprised that Babel is not on your list. Have you seen it?

I also recommend "Half Nelson".

I'd like to comment on your "quick reviews" section. Why only $4 for Taste of Cherry? And don't say cause it's boring, I want real reasons. I'm curious because this is one of my favourite movies. Glad to see you liked "Taxi Driver" this is one of my favourite's as well (a little gory though)

until next time . . .Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
